Let’s go on a treasure hunt together…

In the bible, it tells us that “where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Matthew 6:21)

I think a lot of us would give the answer we’re supposed to, “The Kingdom of God,” or “In my God-given purpose” you get the drift.

And for some of you, maybe that’s true. Maybe you’re in a place where this truly is where you live your life from.

But I think if many of us followed the treasure map of our heart, we’d find that X marks a spot we weren’t expecting…

I want you to ask yourself a few questions…

Where does your emotional energy go when you’re tired?

Where does your mind go when you’re still?

When you are at peace, what does your world look like around you?

When you find yourself feeling anxious, what is it about?

These places might be telling you more than you think.

An idol is anything that takes the place of God in our hearts. Anything we love, obey, or revere more than Him.

When many of us hear the word “idol…”

We think of golden calves or bronze statues. We think of people worshipping ancient relics made by man and we sneer in judgement - “I’d never put an idol before God.”

Yep. Been there… Let’s talk about it.

“Sin is not loving bad things, but loving good things out of order.”

Augustine

It’s okay to love and want things.

It’s okay to want to be productive, to want things to go well and be well, to want to be loved and to love others, and to desire some semblance of control over our circumstances.

You’re not crazy, and you’re not wrong or bad.

But when we want these things more than we want Jesus, more than we want to surrender to His perfect plan, we may have some things out of order.

Your heart is wildly popular, in case you didn’t realize.

There are many things in the world that want control of it, that wish to possess it and never let it go. While this sounds like the romantic plot of a movie, I’m afraid it isn’t, so don’t get too flattered just yet.

Not all of these things are good. There is a very real enemy that has a agenda - an agenda to push different idols and vices in front of you to keep you in a box, to keep you enslaved to approval, fear, and inadequacy.

God doesn’t want to share your heart. Not because He is controlling, but because He loves you SO much. He wants to guide and give you the fullness of the life He has for you.

He wants you to live not from a place of striving and defeat but from a place of rest, unconditional love, and true peace.

It’s time to storm the throne room of your heart. Enough is enough. It’s time to reorder your heart to give the Lord the position He deserves, and start living the abundant life you were created for.

This week on The True North Podcast…

What’s really sitting on the throne of your heart?

In a world that constantly pulls for our attention, affection, and allegiance, it’s easy to assume Jesus is in charge—without ever checking the throne room. In Week 1 of our February series, Matters of the Heart, we’re asking an honest question most of us avoid: What is actually ruling over your heart right now?

In this episode, we unpack what Scripture really means when it talks about idols—not the golden statues of the past, but the quiet, internal rulers we live with every day: productivity, worry, control, and love.

If you’ve ever felt burned out “doing all the right things,” stuck in cycles of anxiety, afraid to surrender control, or tempted to compromise for the sake of being loved, this conversation is for you.

It’s time to take a hard look at what’s really in charge… and reclaim the throne. ❤️

Have a great rest of your week and thanks for being here!

Love, Mykah (and Nimbus)
